Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo organized a ceremony in Accra during which she gave a kind donation of GH¢125,000 to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spill. On behalf of the Judicial Service of Ghana (JUSAG) staff and judiciary, this contribution was made. During his remarks at the function, the Chief Justice emphasized that the joint efforts of JUSAG and the Judiciary enabled this noteworthy donation.

Expressing her empathy for the plight of the victims following the devastating spillage, Justice Torkornoo emphasized her relief that there was no loss of life despite the destruction of numerous properties. She commended the efforts of various leaders who have been diligently working to rebuild and improve the circumstances for the affected individuals and communities.

The Chief Justice emphasized that the donated funds should be utilized for purchasing materials to establish shelters for the victims. She also expressed optimism regarding the reopening of various courts that were closed due to the spillage. By doing so, people would regain access to justice in matters such as letter of administration and adoption, ensuring that the legal system can effectively support those in need during challenging times.
Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, accompanied by Chiefs and Queen mothers of the three traditional areas, shared that more than 12,600 people were displaced due to the spillage, and currently, 21 displaced camps have been established. He acknowledged the collective efforts of Ghanaians whose donations have alleviated the suffering of the victims, expressing surprise and gratitude for the kind donation from the Chief Justice, the Judiciary, and JUSAG. This act of generosity led Mr. Ablakwa to highlight the compassionate side of justice as demonstrated by the eminent judges and jurists, bringing joy to the affected communities.

Togbega Patamia Dzekley VII, Paramount Chief of Battor Traditional Area and Vice President of Volta Regional House of Chiefs, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Judiciary for their generous gesture, recognizing it as a form of natural justice that cannot be overlooked.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Chiefs, Queen mothers, and elders of the Mepe, Dorfor, and Battor Traditional Areas, along with Justice Cyra Cynthia P.A. Koranteng, Judicial Secretary, Justice J. Bartels-Cudjoe, a Justice of the Court of Appeal and chairperson of the Committee which solicited funds from JUSAG and the Judiciary, as well as several Justices of the High Courts.
