Shalimar Abbiusi, a spokesperson for the emerging political movement New Force, made a court appearance today, a week after being arrested and charged with obtaining a student permit through false declaration. The group had previously expressed concern about the situation in a press release on December 7.
The Kaneshie District court has granted the prosecution a few days to complete their investigations and has remanded Abbiusi into custody until her next appearance today. She was escorted to the court by officers from the National Bureau of Investigations this morning.

A few individuals were seen holding placards at the court premises, with messages such as 'Justice for Shallie' among others. Abbiusi had made her first public appearance in a video announcing plans for the upcoming election, which highlighted the suffering of Ghanaians under the Akufo-Addo administration and questioned the leadership's response to citizens' concerns.
According to New Force's press release, Abbiusi's arrest raises concerns about abuse of power, persecution of perceived political opponents, and multiple human rights violations.
