Former Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah, remains optimistic about the Black Stars' chances at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Despite the team's 42-year title drought since their last victory in Libya, Appiah believes they have the potential to reach the final.

With low expectations among Ghanaians due to the team's recent underwhelming performances, Appiah, who now coaches Sudan, is convinced that the Black Stars can defy the odds. He emphasized, "Sometimes when Ghanaians underrate the team, that is when the team surprises Ghana. And it’s happened so many times."
Appiah expressed confidence in the players' quality and their ability to perform well at the tournament. Meanwhile, current coach Chris Hughton's Black Stars are currently based in Kumasi, intensively preparing for the 34th edition of the AFCON.
Ghana's campaign will kick off with a group stage match against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024. They will then face record champions Egypt just four days later before concluding their group stage against Mozambique on January 22.
