In a cooperative effort with Spanish security forces, the police in Morocco have intercepted 1.488 tonnes (3,280lb) of cocaine, hidden within banana boxes discovered inside a shipping container aboard a vessel originating from South America en route to Turkey. The seizure took place on Tuesday at the Tanger Med port in northern Morocco.

Authorities suspect that the confiscated cocaine was part of an international drug smuggling operation, and investigations into this matter are actively underway. The interception comes on the heels of a separate bust where authorities seized nearly 363kg of cocaine from a truck attempting to cross into Morocco via the border with Mauritania.
