"Claims of Delay In Independent Audit False" - National Cathedral Project Director

Dr. Paul Opoku-Mensah, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral Project, has refuted allegations that an independent audit of the project has not been initiated. He has countered the claims made by two members of the Board of Trustees, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Reverend East Anaba, stating that there is, in fact, an ongoing audit being conducted by Deloitte.

In a statement released in Accra, Dr. Opoku-Mensah clarified that numerous meetings were held following the call for an audit, during which all relevant information was made available to the esteemed clergymen. As a result, he deemed their assertion that they had not been informed about the audit process as untrue.

Dr. Opoku-Mensah further explained the timeline of the audit, stating that the engagement letter for Deloitte was drafted and signed on March 27, 2023. The audit process was then set up on their system on May 17, 2023, with the expectation that the first part of the audit would be completed by July 2023. He also confirmed that the Board, including the Chairman and the Steering Committee, had been consistently updated on the progress of the audit through various reports presented by the Executive Director during Board meetings.

Addressing the resignation letter submitted by Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba on October 17, 2023, Dr. Opoku-Mensah clarified that although the two clergymen were absent from the June and September 2023 meetings, they, along with other Board members who were not physically present, were provided with copies of all documents, including the Executive Director's report, pertaining to the Board meetings. Therefore, their claim of being uninformed about the audit process is false.

The dissenting clergymen had cited the Board's alleged refusal to conduct an audit and their perceived lack of updates as reasons for their resignation. However, Dr. Opoku-Mensah's statement contradicts these claims, asserting that an independent audit is indeed taking place and the Board has been kept informed of its progress.
