EC To Start Exhibition of Voters Register Tomorrow

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the exhibition of the provisional voter register will take place simultaneously in all 38,622 polling stations across the country. The exhibition will begin tomorrow, Friday, November 3, and will continue until next Tuesday, November 7. During this period, eligible voters will have the opportunity to verify their details in both the 2020 and 2023 voters registers.

The exercise will be conducted from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day at the polling stations rather than at the EC's district offices. The purpose of the exhibition is to allow prospective voters to check and verify their personal information, such as name, age, sex, and more. If any amendments or insertions are needed, voters can make requests during this time.

Additionally, the exhibition will help voters identify their designated polling stations for the upcoming elections. This information will be crucial for ensuring a smooth voting process on election day.

During a press briefing on the exhibition exercise, the Deputy Chairperson of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, explained that the aim of the exercise is to provide updates and information to the electorate regarding the processes involved in securing a credible voters register for the upcoming 2024 general election.

At the exhibition centers or polling stations, voters can make various requests, including:

  • inclusion of omitted names
  • objections to the names of unqualified voters on the register
  • removal of the names of deceased voters from the register.
  • replacement of poor-quality or damaged voter ID cards.
  • correction of the wrong spelling of names.
  • correction of wrong registration center codes.
  • amendments to other registration details, such as age or sex, due to clerical errors.

To facilitate this process, request forms and voters registers will be provided at the exhibition centers. Once the exhibition period ends, these forms will be sent to the EC's district offices for processing. District registration review officers, who are district court magistrates, have been appointed to receive the provisional voters register and address any complaints or objections raised by voters during the exhibition exercise.

It is advised that voters bring their voter ID cards to the exhibition centers to verify their details and expedite the verification process. However, if a voter does not have their ID card, they can still verify their details. It should be noted that while one can verify the details of a relative or friend, requests for corrections cannot be made in the absence of the voter ID card owner.

For major changes, such as a complete name change, addition of new names, change of polling station code, change of photographs, or inclusion of omitted names, the voter must visit the district office of the EC. The change will be made only after the voter undergoes biometric authentication at the district office.
